Jake Shimabukuro plays the ukulele but not like anything ever seen or heard before in this rock documentary on the pioneering Hawaiian ukulele virtuoso who propelled this simple four-string instrument to dazzling heights. Screening preceded by a live performance by Adrianne Chan, a Toronto-based Chinese Canadian ukulele musician. Performance produced by torontoUKES & Corktown Ukulele Jam.
Following the Canadian premiere of the film, join torontoUKES & Corktown Ukulele Jam at the Monarch Festival Hub (12 Clinton St) for the Reel Asian Uke Jam, a special edition of their weekly event held Wednesdays at the Dominion on Queen. This live teach-in on the basics of ukulele technique takes place from 8:00 PM-9:30 PM and there is a suggested donation of $10, or PWYC.
At 9:30 PM, torontoUKES & Corktown Ukulele Jam program our annual live music showcase, Live on Four Strings, with a slate of performers drawn from CUJam's 1400-strong community, and headlined by Adrianne Chan. This event also takes place at the Monarch Festival Hub, and suggested cover is $10/PWYC (free for those who donated during the Reel Asian Uke Jam portion of the evening).
