VENUE, Vancouver, BC
19 years and over
Major innovators of the harmony twin lead guitar format, British rockers wishbone ash are bringing their original sound back to Vancouver. Respected and admired by musicians and fans the world over, the twin lead guitar attack became the trademark of the band on such hits as “Helpless”, “Runaway”, “Lorelei”, “Persephone”, “You Rescue Me”, “Outward Bound”, “Mother Of Pearl”, “Rest In Peace” and “Bad Weather Blues”. Whether it’s lead and rhythm, simultaneous leads, twin harmonies or extended instrumental breaks, the guitars are complimentary, inventive and melodic. The rhythm section lends its full support with grooving, propulsive pockets while the bass brings another lead element into the mix. The musical mastery each member brings to the band is seen in the arrangement, feel and mood of their songs.
Through 43 years and a musical resumé that includes more than 30 albums and several DVD performances, the constant of WISHBONE ASH has been ANDY POWELL, voted into the Ten Most Important Guitarists in Rock History (Traffic magazine 1989) and the Top 20 Guitarists Of All Time (Rolling Stone). Through the years, he has been featured in notable publications, including Guitar Player, Vintage Guitar and Guitarist, and has appeared at the Guitar Institute in Los Angeles. He has worked on sessions for George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Kashif, Stewart Copeland and Renaissance, among others. His instrumental compositions have been used as themes for radio and TV (including the “Today Show”) and for the World Soccer Cup.
Wishbone's third album, "Argus" (1972), was named The Best British Album of the Year by Melody Maker. Now, for this very special engagement, An Evening With wishbone ash, featuring ARGUS Live!, you will hear every track of this powerhouse album live and up close. “Time Was”, “Sometime World”, “Blowin Free”, “The King Will Come”, “Leaf and Stream”, “Warrior”, “Throw Down The Sword”, “Jail Bait”, “The Pilgrim” and “Phoenix” are amongst the most memorable titles ever written.
