Aiko Sato is one of Japan’s most lauded authors. Among her many award-winning books is “Battle and Sunset,” vividly portraying her struggles with her “useless” husband which led to the Naoki Prize in 1969, as well as her second divorce. Today, Aiko is 90 years old and living in peaceful retirement. That is, until a persistent editor convinces her to un-retire, arguing the public needs the wisdom from a nonagenarian. The resulting smash hit seals an unlikely friendship between writer and editor.

With an extraordinarily deft and understated performance by 90-year-old actress Mitsuko Kusabue as Aiko (who’s now 100 and still publishing), this dramedy is as hilarious as it is life-affirming.

Starring: Mitsuko Kusabue, Toshiaki Karasawa, Sawako Fujima, Tae Kimura, Miki Maya
