Havelin is the musical identity of 19 year old singer/songwriter Alex Zaichkowski, born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta. Channeling his inner folk writer, Havelin strives to tell a story with his music. Lyrically taking cues from the early influences of Dan Mangan, Tom Waits, and Father John Misty, his words are straight from the heart and his music is kept simple, honest and cutting right to the core.
“With my songs, I really like to put a focus on storytelling - not the sort folksy narrative kind of stuff, but more of an honest portrayal of emotion. To write that, you have to acknowledge your own feelings and look at your own painful or amazing experiences as a story, and confront the way you deal with situations. It’s sort of a weirdly cathartic, self-analyzation process - to take all of your hurt, all of you frustration, all of your love, all of your humour and put it into words.” - Havelin
The anticipated release of new music later in 2018 will see the evolution of Havelin’s style and sound, where he chronicles the full spectrum of human emotions experienced within romantic entanglement. There will be a song for every feeling, every smile, and every struggle.
Almond&Olive (A&O) creates inspiring songs that span the folk and Americana genres, while also incorporating timeless vocals and the duo’s distinct songwriting. Blended together, the duo's voices sound made for each other, soaring and guiding the music through all the ups and downs of these finely crafted songs.
The music A&O creates comes at you in waves. Together their voices lay down a solid base and tone, funneling you into succinct chorus melodies that build into a crescendo of rich and powerful harmonies. The end result of each song is satisfying and expressive, weaving together themes of love, fear, hope and loss. Each song’s purpose is to mark a moment in time, and give the listener a glimpse into the lives of these prolific songwriters. It’s a vulnerable look at times, though for the most part the music resolves itself to the basic emotions of hope and love, and let’s you know that no matter how low things get, there is a lift coming soon.
A&O believe that, when possible, using their platform of musical creation and performance to give back to those in need is a natural extension of their personal goals - to make the world a better place for those who live in it.
Pilot Light (Michael Kirkopoulos) is a solo singer/songwriter from Toronto, Ontario. His fresh and thought provoking lyrics seem to perfectly compliment the pop sensibility of this up and coming artist.
During the cold Canadian winter of 2013, the soloist began to work on a debut LP which would later be titled "In Three's". With majority of the recording process taking place in a Oakville Ontario church, the 9 track record revealed feelings of honesty, regret, love and heartache. The record was well received by his fans/audience and gave the artist a fresh dose of confidence.
Since “In Three’s”, Pilot Light has released a follow up record, this time teaming up with producer Ross Hayes-Citrullo. The Fly The Nest EP met completion in the summer of 2015. In support of the release, Pilot Light extensively toured Ontario and Quebec. By now, a recognizable momentum had begun to build for Pilot Light, which resulted in shows at NXNE, Winterfolk Festival, Canadian Music Week, Indie Week, Sound of Music fest. and much more including weddings, festivals and private events of all sorts.
Currently the Pilot is in the process of writing his next record slated for late 2018 (although this is only a rough timeline)
With much still to come, keep a watchful eye for the Pilot in the sky...
Pairing melodic, sun-soaked rock with sparkling pop hooks, Fredericton’s David in the Dark is an accomplished and dynamic band from Atlantic Canada. A creative, cohesive unit that’s topped regional campus radio and toured relentlessly, David in the Dark have shared the stage with the likes of Matt Mays, Paper Lions and The Elwins, in addition to headlining their own tours and festival dates across Canada.
Fire (their debut album) evokes the urgency of summer nights and the defiance of former selves through upbeat pop-rock anthems and spacey melodies. The band's most recent release is a pair of songs they recorded live off the floor during their time at Converse Shoes Rubber Tracks Studio in Boston, MA. David in the Dark plan to release a new EP in the spring of 2018, along with a supporting tour and showcases.
