  • Abraham

    Abraham

    Folk

Abraham’s music is intimate and full of sincerity. Her debut 2014 release, "This Old Heart" is a collection of seductive, sentimental and admirable feeling. Recorded and produced by Sam Weber at Infinity Studios in her hometown of Victoria B.C. The EP’ generated much interest upon it's release. Especially attracting the attention of CBC, where the EP’s official single, ‘Burn Bright’ was premiered. An interview accompanied the premier, giving listeners the opportunity to hear the unique story behind this folk, pop piece.

Abraham is the project name for singer/songwriter Sydney Batters. The young artist brings a little bit of each genre to the table. Carrying with her a blend of soulful electric folk, jazzy undertones and low-fi nuance, while also drawing a subtle twang from her southern background. ‘This Old Heart’ was a collection of work centred around the evolution of life, love and death. “It’s a journey through human connection and relationship; an exploration between the lines of beginning and ending” she says. Backed by the sounds of booming trumpet, subtle violin, and piano, "This Old Heart" is decidedly human.

Since 2014, she has been touring and playing consistently. Now with 3 major Canadian tours under her belt, her next endeavour will span Knoxville and Nashville, Tennessee in the summer of 2018. Currently based in Vancouver B.C, Abraham is hard at work in the studio and set to release some new, exciting music, very soon.

    Kaleigh Watts

    Folk

Kaleigh Watts is a Canadian musician and songwriter, born a songbird of the wild, water, and woods. Her alto singing voice has been described as raw and hauntingly beautiful, which perfectly complements her rhythmic fingerpicking on acoustic guitar and her old soul as a lyricist. Watts captures listeners with her intimate musicality, nostalgic melodies on her vintage würiltzer electric piano, and on-stage performance charisma. When joined by her band, Watts debuts an elevated sound with lush arrangements of bowed bass and subtle drums that project warmth and juxtapose with her somber lyrical themes.

Watts is an artist whose works reflect her location. She released her debut album “Smoke Lake” in 2014; an intimate and minimalist project that was recorded without electricity in her family’s cabin and along portage trails in Smoke Lake, Algonquin Provincial Park, Ontario. Many of the tracks were inspired by the familiar surroundings of Algonquin, and include field recordings and textures of the park’s wildlife and natural atmosphere. Watts is now singing songs of the city with her new album “Hung Me Dry”; a collection of songs composed during and inspired by Watts’ time living in the city of Ottawa, Ontario. “Hung Me Dry” is an emotional and evocative art piece that illustrates Watts’ longing for relief amid the solitude and darkness of a city.

Watts' notable performances include the National Arts Centre, RBC Ottawa Bluesfest, CityFolk Festival, City of Om Yoga Festival, and tours in eastern Canada.
