  • Osypa

    Osypa

    Singer-Songwriter

OSYPA’s debut EP Luna is a testament to the beauty of restraint- a thoughtful glimpse into Alexandra Babiak’s memories and desires.

As a teenager OSYPA fell in love with greats like Nina Simone and Billie Holiday. You can sense these influences in the heart wrenching arc of her voice as it floats among analog soundscapes.. Alexandra Babiak wrote the songs on Luna after the sudden death of her mother and explores this loss with a rare openness. But OSYPA’s music is full of playfulness too. For inspiration she finds joy in the little things- walks in High Park, taking baths, reading mystery novels and eating candy. OSYPA is well versed in the joys and trials of life, and you can hear this wisdom in her music. She is currently based in Toronto and working on a full-length album.

  • Dear Child

    Dear Child

    Alternative Folk

Dear Child is a new Northern Irish alt-folk act creating dark, lyrical and alluringly melancholic music. Cellist/ vocalist Alana Henderson and guitarist Alan Haslam formed the duo soon after they met in late 2017, naming it after the translation of ‘A Leanbh’, the Irish phrase from which Alana’s first name is derived. The pair turned the terraced house in Belfast where they both now live into a makeshift recording studio, using Henderson’s delicate vocal and searingly acerbic songwriting to form the centrepiece of their first collection of songs. Underpinned by haunting, reverb-drenched arrangements and waves of earthy electronics, their debut record is set for release in April 2018.

  • Twin Flames

    Twin Flames

    Folk Rock

Despite polar opposite backgrounds Twin Flames found a common musical language. Twin Flames combines Jaaji an Inuk/Mohawk from Nunavik and Chelsey June a Métis from Ottawa. Together they take the audience on a musical journey across Canada and the Arctic, they sing in English, Inuktitut and French.

This powerful husband and wife duo won The Canadian Folk Music Award for Aboriginal Songwriters of the year in 2016. Their debut self-titled Album Jaaji & Chelsey June released December 2015 was also nominated for two Native American music awards in the United States: Best Folk and Best new duo. The Album topped music charts with the song Porchlight which reached #1 on The National Aboriginal Music Countdown. Twin Flames were voted top indie band for Native Trailblazers radio 2016 and 2018.

In June 2017 they released their much anticipated second album Signal Fire which earned them a consecutive year win at the Canadian Folk Music Awards as Aboriginal Songwriters of the year, also nominated in 2 other Categories: Vocal Group of the Year, World Group the Year. They were also nominated at the Teweikan Music Awards in 3 Categories: Best Folk Band, Emerging Artists of the year and Best Album of the year.

They have played over 700 shows in three years with performances that have taken them across Canada and the Arctic. What started as small flame has turned into a raging fire one that is staying lit in the hearts of fans and listeners.

  • Fox Glove

    Fox Glove

    Alternative Folk

Fox Glove hails from Victoria BC, and exists in the realm of harmony and alt folk pop. This band is known for their diverse voices and range in sound, offering everything from reflective melancholy ballads to strident and mysterious anthems. Fox Glove has become a staple in the BC music scene, performing as a three-piece at more intimate shows, and revealing another four musicians for larger events. In January 2018, they headlined famed Alix Goolden Hall in Victoria, selling out the 800 seat theatre with support from Towers and Trees and Twin Bandit. They have performed at Canadian Music Week, Tall Tree, and Rifflandia music festivals as well as the Canada Day Mainstage in Victoria, BC. They have recorded and collaborated with acts such as Astrocolor, Carmanah, and Jesse Roper, and have supported national acts including Coeur de Pirate and Mother Mother. Often compared to bands such as the Staves and Jospeh, a Fox Glove show is a passionate experience not to be missed.

  • Coco Melies

    Coco Melies

    Folk

In 2011, the duo released The Walking Birds, a noted first calling card that took them to a variety of stages in Quebec, the United States and France. The artists had previously been invited to contribute to Bran Van 3000’s album, The Garden, and take part in the collective’s tour.

After two years on the road and a first place at the Sherbrooklyn contest, Coco Méliès returned to Montreal to release their first folk album, Lighthouse. In March 2015, the duo presented the Montreal concert premiere of Lighthouse. Lauded by critics, the performance earned them an invitation to perform at the Rockwood Music Hall in New York. A European tour followed which notably saw Coco Méliès perform at the Folk You festival and “Off” MaMA Festival.

The Riddle was released in April 2017, with bassist Julien Thibault and drummer Simon Bilodeau. Coproduced by Connor Seidel (Matt Holubowski), this new opus reconnects us with the Coco Méliès way: refined melodies, captivating harmonies and a thoughtful blend of softness and strength.

The opus was critically acclaimed as “High-calibre Folk music” by La Presse; CBC-Radio-Canada spoke of it as a bewitching and gentle album, the kind that takes your heart.

Happy with this success, the band took the roads of Quebec and Europe once again  ̶  they performed on major outdoor scene of Montreal Jazz Festival on July 1st . They received The Best Vocal Group at the Canadian Folk Music Award 2017.
