For three decades, Econoline Crush has stood as one of Canada’s most distinctive and enduring
industrial rock bands. Formed in Vancouver, British Columbia, the band forged a powerful
sound built on crushing guitars, electronic textures, commanding vocals, and an unmistakable
alternative-rock edge. At the center of that sound and the band’s remarkable journey has been
vocalist and leader Trevor Hurst, whose vision, intensity, and unmistakable voice have helped
define Econoline Crush from its earliest days to the present.
In 1997, Econoline Crush released what would become the landmark album of their career, The
Devil You Know. The record transformed the band from a respected Canadian alternative act
into a major force on the North American rock scene. Fueled by songs such as “All That You
Are,” “Home,” and “Surefire,” The Devil You Know became the band’s best-selling album,
earning a devoted following and cementing Econoline Crush’s place in Canadian rock history.
Now, 30 years after its release, The Devil You Know remains a defining statement of the
era—and a record that continues to resonate with longtime fans while introducing new
generations to the band’s explosive sound. Its combination of industrial aggression, melodic
songwriting, electronic experimentation, and Hurst’s commanding vocals gave Econoline Crush
an identity that was impossible to duplicate.
But Econoline Crush has never been content to simply look backward.
Today, Trevor Hurst continues to lead Econoline Crush into a new chapter, joined by a new
generation of musicians: Brett Carruthers, Stephy Seki, and Keith Heppler. Together, the new
lineup brings fresh energy and musicianship to the Econoline Crush legacy while honoring the
sound and spirit that made the band a Canadian rock institution.
The result is a band that understands its history without being confined by it. The intensity
remains. The industrial pulse remains. The unmistakable Econoline Crush attitude remains. Yet
the new lineup brings its own chemistry and perspective, ensuring that the band’s story
continues to evolve.
As Econoline Crush celebrates the 30th anniversary of The Devil You Know, the milestone is
more than a look back at a best-selling album. It is a celebration of three decades of music,
touring, reinvention, and the enduring connection between a band and its fans.
From the industrial-rock explosion of the 1990s to the present day, Trevor Hurst and Econoline
Crush have continued to prove that great rock music can evolve without losing its identity.
Thirty years after The Devil You Know, Econoline Crush is still here—and the next chapter is
just beginning. -
