It's been a couple of months since the biggest birthday bash in our history which was Victoria's 25th Anniversary Ska & Reggae Festival. But as summer comes to a close we still have more good times to look forward to going into this fall.
It's been a minute since we saw our friends KMAN & THE 45s in Victoria. The last time was during the pandemic at a limited seated capacity show for Halloween which sold out weeks in advance. So when they said they were touring this fall, we couldn't resist to have them back. Not only are we going to have them but we've created a ska reunion of sorts with Canada's best ska from east to west! And representing some of the best ska in the west here on the Island is none other than DOPE SODA!! Finally they're back after a long hiatus to join us once again.
Rounding out the bill are Gun Street Ghouls from Victoria who will bring soulful blues. Notably Gun Street Ghouls have members of the now defunct Sexweather (Graeme Wray and Nathan Selby) who are also part of our Ska & Reggae Society family. Gun Street Ghouls have been working on brand new recordings which they are excited to present at this show.
Finally K-man & the 45s' Stomp Records label mates Dany Laj & the Looks will make their debut in Victoria. Laj's heartfelt songs seamlessly blend rock, folk and country elements, without straying too far from the power-pop roots. Dany Laj and Jeanette Dowling are known for their extensive touring schedules and electrifying live shows. Impressively, the band has played over 1000 shows all through North America!
Put one or two but four bands all on the same bill for under $20 advance and you've got yourself a Ska Party to be fully thankful for sure!

Dope Soda formed in late 2011, a fresh concoction of six of the top jazz, rock, and Jamaican-music-inspired musicians from Vancouver Island, with frequent appearances in acts such as Current Swell, Jon & Roy, and Lovecoast. The band is led by a three-piece horn section with roots in the highly-regarded Vancouver Island University Jazz Department, buoyed by a funky rhythm section that serves up sips of bubbling Hammonds and Wurlitzers, shots of distorted guitar, and heavy bass–in your face.
Dope Soda jumps back and forth between reggae jams, punk-rock assaults, happy ska romps, and hip-hop throw-downs– a thirst quencher for audiences who need good rhymes and good times -
