THE MUSIC
Tim Magwood has had a passion for singing and performing since he was very young. He learned how to sing with his grandmother Doris (Dodie) – his dad’s mom, when 3 years old. He vividly remembers her inviting him to sit beside him on the piano stool and listening/responding so he could learn traditional Irish tunes on the fly. That inspiration and passion for music has fueled Tim for his whole life. He started his career in musical theatre performing in mega-musicals like Les Misérables & Napoleon. After 3 years doing many cool shows, he realized that he wasn’t going to have the grit to be a career actor/singer so he moved into Sales/Marketing and then pursued an entrepreneurial life as a Coach, Facilitator & Keynote Speaker. Then, in 2006, he was missing music desperately and was curious about song writing. He was connected with a brilliant songwriter, Scotty Dibble, who helped him co-write, produce and (finally) launch his first original album, Zig Zag Bridge in 2010. In 2013 after 3 years of song writing and soul-searching, Danny Greenspoon helped Tim produce album #2 , Endless Sky. This was a collaboration with 12 different Canadian songwriters including Bruce Good (of the Good Brothers) and Melanie Doane – both Juno award winners.
In 2017, he co-wrote and co-produced original album #3, Scorpio Soul, with David Martin – a constant music companion and mentor since 2006. Music and song writing have taught Tim a tonne about collaboration, creativity and the human spirit. Then came along Singles ’20 – a series of singles, all co-written with David Martin & mixed by Pat Fockler released in 2020 and 2021. Tim’s latest music project is Lone Streetlight – being launched in May 2023 at the legendary El Mocambo. These tunes were all written during COVID – so there is a mix of angst, loneliness and hope in this music. This album explores a full range of human emotions.
Tim continues to learn with and from song writing and believes that the best songs we don’t write, that they are written through us. For a sampling of some videos, pics and perspectives on music & song writing, go to https://timmagwood.com/music/
