Pom Pom Squad is a Brooklyn-based indie rock band that has been making waves with their distinctive blend of punk, grunge, and pop influences. Led by vocalist and songwriter Mia Berrin, the band emerged in 2015 and quickly gained attention for their raw, emotive sound and poignant lyricism. Originally conceived as a solo project by Berrin, Pom Pom Squad evolved into a full-fledged band as she assembled a talented lineup to bring her musical vision to life. Their music delves deep into themes of identity, vulnerability, and personal growth, often drawing from Berrin's own experiences with mental health challenges and societal pressures.
In 2019, Pom Pom Squad released their debut EP titled "Hate It Here," which garnered critical acclaim for its honesty and authenticity. Tracks like "Heavy Heavy" and "Cherry Blossom" showcase their ability to juxtapose gritty guitar riffs with Berrin's powerful vocals, creating a sound that is both nostalgic and refreshingly modern. Known for their electrifying live performances, Pom Pom Squad has built a dedicated fan base captivated by their infectious energy and impassioned delivery.
They continue to evolve their sound while maintaining a core commitment to crafting songs that resonate deeply with listeners. As they navigate the indie music landscape, Pom Pom Squad remains a dynamic force poised for further growth and impact. With new projects on the horizon and a steadfast dedication to their craft, they are set to solidify their place as one of the most compelling voices in contemporary alternative rock.
Caroline Kingsbury is a queer artist born and raised in the church. She had little access to secular music until her teen years when its discovery led her to run headfirst toward a life in music. "Heaven's Just A Flight,” her 16-song debut album, was praised by Pitchfork as “a collage of stylistic eras united by their outsized personalities from disco to post-punk...Recalling the naked vulnerability of Kate Bush or Karen O.”
Kingsbury’s latest, "Take My Phone Away," serves as the final single ahead of the release of I Really Don't Care!, joining "Alabama" and lead single "Our House" as representatives of what we can expect from Kingsbury's sophomore EP. “Caroline is a singer’s singer, a rockstar’s rockstar, and a vulnerable storyteller all at the same time,” songwriter Justin Tranter says.
She recalls, "With I Really Don’t Care!, I went into the writing process with an open heart and alongside Charlie Brand, Justin Tranter, and Ryland Blackinton we brought my sound into a new dimension that I have never tapped into before." I Really Don't Care! is a culmination of the three years since she released her debut album, Heaven's Just a Flight.
"Everything I write is personal," Caroline continues. "No matter how hard I try to be mysterious, I can’t help but share my life and my story with you. I try to be a chill girl but I’m not. My first lesbian heartbreak (which is its own special brand of heartbreak of its own), family estrangement after having that first lesbian relationship, and working late shifts to pay my rent - I Really Don’t Care! shows that no matter how hard I try I really do care..I’ve come to accept that it’s my superpower."
I Really Don't Care! is due for release on October 18th.
“Fall In Love,” off her debut, was featured in Scream (2022) and most recently “Breaking Apart” featured on Never Have I Ever (Season 4) on Netflix.
