Toronto-based multi-disciplinary artist Kurt Swinghammer’s newest music project is a twelve-song record that follows the arc of legendary Canadian artist Tom Thomson’s life from Owen Sound to Toronto to the bottom of Canoe Lake. A companion BluRay disc includes instrumental ambient remixes set to animations of Swinghammer’s WAV file paintings based on the digital recordings of his vocal tracks. These images are homages to Thomson’s classic northern shoreline subject matter. Kurt’s band Tom Toms On is comprised of acclaimed session musicians Maury Lafoy on bass, Mark Mariash on drums, David Matheson on piano, and Lori Cullen on backing vocals. They’ll perform the album in its entirety accompanied by animated projections and field recordings from Algonquin Park. Wav file paintings on 8” x10” wood panels will also be on display for the evening. Swinghammer has been featured as Artist Of The Week on Bravo TV’s Arts & Minds, appeared on the cover of NOW Magazine, and has work in the collection of the Canada Council Art Bank.
