Description
As we barrel down to the road to Victoria's 24th Annual Ska & Reggae Festival we're making a stop to see our dear friends and one of Canada's coolest bands, KOBO TOWN. Kobo Town's blend of calypso, ska, dancehall and dub has made them favourites wherever they go, but their music has truly found a second home here on the west coast. Their chilled-out but bouncy island-vibes and satirical storytelling fit perfectly here on the sunny BC coast. The last time Kobo Town visited us was for a show-stopping set headlining Thursday night of last years Victoria Ska & Reggae Fest, where they played a career-spanning set that kept the dance floor hot long after the sun went down. There's not many bands we could think of more fitting to help propel us down the road as Kobo Town.
Also joining us for this part of the journey is one of the true gems of the west coast reggae scene and one of our favourite groups, PHONOSONICS. Their untouchable harmonies, supple horns and old-school grooves have delighted audiences throughout BC. There is probably not another group in the area that delivers such passionate and authentic 60's & 70's sounding rocksteady, reggae and ska. A Phonosonics show is sure to move your feet and fill you to the brim with rocksteady sweetness. Come join us and our friends at one of the last stops on the Road to Ska & Reggae Fest.

Kobo Town continues to redefine calypso music and pushes the boundaries of the Caribbean sound with its fourth album, CARNIVAL OF THE GHOSTS.
Behind the running social commentary and satirical mood, this is a collection of songs about the human condition – about our quirks and foibles, our anxieties and hopes, and the haunting sense of impermanence that imbues our every moment with its urgency and priceless worth.
Named after the storied district in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, where calypso was born, Kobo Town has been described as “an intoxicating blend of lilting calypsonian wit, dancehall reggae and trombone-heavy brass” (Guardian) and a “unique, transnational composite of rhythm, poetry and activist journalism.” (Exclaim!) Since their founding in 2005, the group has brought their distinct calypso and ska-inspired sound to audiences across the world.
