Garage Punk
Formed in Ottawa in 1976, The Action is widely recognized as
Canada's first punk band. Founded by brothers John and Paul Fenton
along with frontman Ted Axe, the pioneering group fused traditional
blues-rock and pub rock with the frantic, DIY energy of early English
and American punk.
The Action played a massive role in carving out the North American
underground music scene. In 1978, they were chosen to open for
The Ramones and subsequently toured with The Stranglers.
Their independent 1978 12-inch EP—featuring the raw, subcultural
cult classic "TV's on the Blink"—remains a highly sought-after piece
of North American punk vinyl.
