For more than six decades, the Wailers have toured the globe and brought the music of Bob Marley to adoring masses wherever they go. As members have come and gone, one thing that hasn't changed is the quality of the music. When The Wailers take the stage the messages of Bob Marley's classic music – the music that has got countless people through countless struggles – rings loud and clear, played with love and passion. It doesn't matter who you are, where you come from or where you're going, if you're a human being the music of The Wailers is sure to stir up big emotions and big calm deep inside your bones. A performance by the Wailers is always a cause for celebration and a performance under the night sky on the Victoria Ska & Reggae Fest main stage at Ship Point feels like a recipe for a truly unforgettable celebration.
One of Canada's most powerful and soulful voices, TANIKA CHARLES, will be joining this Friday night celebration as direct support for The Wailers. With over a decade of consistently phenomenal singles and albums under her belt, Tanika Charles' name has become synonymous with the finest grooves and rhythms in Canada. Her phenomenal album “Soul Run” was long-listed for the Polaris Music Prize in 2016 and was a 2017 Juno Award nominee for best R&B/Soul Recording of the Year. Turning the page to a new chapter of her already storied career with the release of her newest album “Papillon de Nuit: The Night Butterfly”, Tanika Charles makes her way to Victoria Ska & Reggae Fest with a whole new arsenal of tracks to get the Inner Harbour moving and sweating.
Also on the bill for this special night is Vancouver's funky powerhouse CURTIS CLEAR SKY & THE CONSTELLATIONZ. Combining traditional Indigenous musical culture with hard-hitting funk and hip-hop, no one is doing it like Curtis Clear Sky & The Constellationz right now and we couldn't think of anyone more suited to kick off Night 3 in the Inner Harbour. And last but certainly not least, our longtime ally and one of Vancouver's most notorious DJ/selectors, TANK GYAL will be holding it down between sets as she flexes her deep knowledge of all things riddim.

The Wailers
The Wailers
Reggae
Not many bands can claim genuine legend status. The Wailers comfortably claim their place in essential
music history. Their music was, and is, culture-defining: rebel hearts with brave souls embodying the
spirit of 70s era-defining reggae.
The band play a special set featuring incredible cuts from Bob Marley’s formidable back catalogue along
with a string of their greatest, classic hits. The Wailers are giving you a chance to be part of the legacy.
Aston Barrett Jr, himself reggae royalty as son of the irrepressible ‘Familyman’, carries the flame for
The Wailers in a show that is simply not to be missed.
In late 2020, The Wailers released their first single off the album, “One World, One Prayer”, a powerful
piece focused on unity, love and inclusion beyond cultural differences. Produced and written by Emilio
Estefan, “One World, One Prayer“, mixes Jamaican reggae with the sounds of the urban Latin genre.
The track features international titan Farruko, Jamaican superstar Shaggy, and continues the legacy
of Bob Marley alongside the great man’s daughter, Cedella Marley, and her son Skip Marley.
One World, the album that marks the Wailers’ return to the recording studios and the band’s first album
for 25 years, was nominated for a 2021 Grammy® Award in the Best Reggae Album category.
The essence of 70s rebellion, the true spirit of reggae performed by the people who helped forge the era-
defining sound and by those raised under their tutelage. Living Legends, Reggae Royalty carrying the
flame – now you can be a part of the legacy. When The Wailers come calling, you listen.

R&B
Tanika Charles
Tanika Charles
R&B
Formerly the best kept secret in soul music, Toronto-based Tanika Charles has become a known staple of
the genre both at home and abroad. Her music revels in honesty and attitude, her live show is high energy
and endearing, and she continues to win audiences over one stream, one Shazam and one encore at a time.
In 2016 Tanika independently released her debut album “Soul Run”, which would be re-released through
the Italian label Record Kicks in 2017. “Soul Run” was long-listed for the 2016 Polaris Music Prize and
nominated for the 2017 Juno Award for best R&B/Soul Recording of the Year.
Tanika’s 2019 sophomore album “The Gumption” picks up where “Soul Run” left off, continuing her
tradition of marrying classic soul with modern production and instrumentation. She was again long-listed
for the 2019 Polaris Music Prize and had the honour of being named the inaugural Polaris artist-in-
residence for 2020 at the Studio Bell National Music Centre. In early 2020 “The Gumption” was
nominated for the Juno Awards 2020 R&B/Soul Recording of the Year. April 2022 has brought the release
of her critically acclaimed new record “Papillon de Nuit: The Night Butterfly.” The album continues
Tanika's incredible streak of albums, further cementing her place in the pantheon of Canadian soul music.
Backed by her band The Wonderfuls, Tanika has embarked on five international tours since releasing Soul
Run, performing in front of many thousands of fans across nine countries. Tanika’s live show oscillates
between faithful recreations of her studio recordings and revealing influences of rock, gospel and country
influences.
